Setting Up Windows XP

1. Click on the Start button
2. Click on Control Panel
3. If your Control Panel looks like this (category view), go to step 5.
4. If your Control Panel looks like this (classic view), go to step 22

5. On the Control Panel, click on the Network and Internet Connections icon


6. Under Pick a Task... click on Set up or change your Internet connection
7. If the Location Information window appears, fill in “United States” and “340” in the appropriate fields
8. Click OK
9. If the Phone and Modem Options window is displayed next, click OK


10. On the New Connection Wizard window, click in the circle next to Dial-up to private network
11. Click Next
12. In the Phone number box, type 775-7873
13. Click Next

14. In the Type a name you want for this connection box, type surfVI
15. Click Next
16. Type your username and password into the appropriate boxes. Leave the Domain field blank.
17. Click OK
18. On the Internet Properties window, surfVI (Default) should be listed.
If Default is not listed by surfVI, click on surfVI and then click on the Set Default button
19. Choose the option Always dial my default connection
20. Click OK

21. You’re finished!
 

22. On the Control Panel, double-click on the Network Connections icon


23. On the Network Connection control panel, click on Create New Connection in the Network Tasks area
24. Click Next


25. Choose Connect to the Internet
26. Click Next
27. Choose Set up my connection manually
28. Click Next

29. Choose Connect using a dial-up modem
30. Click Next

31. In the ISP name box, type surfVI
32. Click Next
33. In the Phone number box, type 775-7873
34. Click Next

35. In the User name box, type your user name (i.e., joepirate@surfVI.com)
36. In the Password and Confirm password boxes, type your password.
37. The three check boxes can be set to your preference.
38. Click Next



39. Click Finish
40. You’re finished!
